The headcount at The City & Capital Group HQ has certainly grown over the past 12 months. And, without our team we simply wouldn’t be where we are today, so in our regular blog series we have decided to shine the spotlight on each member, to find out a little more about them…

This month we’re finding out more about our financial services consultant and head of acquisitions, Rob Holding. He loves recruiting new people and helping companies to acquire or sell their business, and reveals that if he had a superpower it would be invisibility.

Summarise your role in one paragraph:

Changing lives! I assist clients in finding top quality hires and help businesses to improve their own brand, while also sourcing real solutions for people looking for career progression and exit strategies. 

What’s the best part of your job? 

Filling a role or helping a company acquire or sell a business – especially where the process has been long and those involved have relied on my management to see it through to a great conclusion!

What makes The City & Capital Group stand out from its competitors?

In all departments we operate a consultative approach, taking time to really understand the people we are conversing with. We’re encouraged to take as long as it requires to understand the brief and those we are working with, and we have excellent systems and processes to assist.

Having worked for a number of similar organisations in the past, I’m overwhelmed by just how different we are to a typical volume-based business.

What three words do you think best describes City & Capital?

Professional, meticulous and successful.

And what three words do you think your colleagues would use to describe you?

Patient, committed and droll.

If one of your colleagues could win an award (industry or office-related) who would it be and why?

Stuart, because he has an unswerving focus on success. To work for someone who is so committed to their business and works tirelessly to motivate the team is fantastic.

The phone rings and it's your dream enquiry - who would the client be? 

An IFA looking to retire and therefore, wanting to sell their business. They would clearly appreciate our working methods, and entrust me to help them secure the best for their future.

What is the biggest challenge facing the industry over the next 12 months? 

Nobody really knows how the aftermath of Brexit will affect the industries we recruit in. Within the financial advice sector, there are a range of challenges facing business owners including the concerns relating to liability – particularly for those operating in the pension transfer arena. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a wider review by the FCA.

How do you wind-down during the weekend? 

I try to watch Leeds United as much as possible, and have a few beers with my friends. Otherwise I enjoy family time with my partner, son, daughter and granddaughter. 

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

Invisibility.
